Work Days At The Park, 2005. . . .

In the winter of 2005-2006 Park Administrator Steve Satterfield asked the Alliance if they would consider joining with other Park users to form a Trail Crew to do work on the Park's many trails. Brad Corey, Mid-South Trails Association, a cycling organization was asked to co-chair the committee with the Alliance's Peggy Hart. It was decided to continue to use the second weekend of the month alternating Sat. and Sun. and to continue to meet at 10:00 at the Visitor Center.

On March 6, 2005 Alliance members worked on the wooden bridge at the western end of the Yellow Trail. This bridge had a huge hole at one end where the trail and bridge joined caused by water running down the trail and under the bridge. Alliance members trenched around the bridge to divert the water and then filled the hole with rip-rap, geo fabric and limestone which allowed any remaining water to drain through the limestone instead of causing more erosion.

The following weekend Brynda & Ron Read and Jerry Rhodes removed an overhanging tree downed by the July, 2002 storm before it could fall and crush the bridge.

Major roadblock by-passed. Where the White Trail drops off of the Meander Lake Levee a large tree felled by the 2002 storm blocked access for horses. On January 15, 2005 Alliance members built a trail around this downed tree for use by horses, bikers, and hikers. Thanks go to Brynda Read, Wes Mueller, Jerry Rhodes, Peggy Hart, Mary Page and Rick Sievers
